Cognitive Behavior Therapy – What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well-researched psychological intervention and has been used to treat a wide range of issues including anxiety and depression. The focus of CBT therapy is on understanding the relationship between unhelpful thinking patterns on our emotions and behaviors. As part of treatment, you will be asked to do “homework” between sessions that could include facing your fears, maintaining a log, and practicing identifying and challenging faulty thinking.

Exposure and Response Prevention – This is the “gold standard” for treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It is also used in treating some anxiety disorders. It is based on the idea that we avoid what we fear. ERP, a form of therapy, involves confronting distressing thoughts, emotions, or images while simultaneously decreasing the frequency of compulsive behaviors or rituals. Through this process, you acquire the skills to navigate temporary discomfort and develop confidence that anxiety will subside, all while achieving lasting progress.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy – This is a therapy that is based on CBT but incorporates skills to help people regulate their emotions. I can work with you to learn skills related to DBT. It teaches skills related to emotional regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and interpersonal communication. These skills can help a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, and BFRBs.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy – This is a third-wave therapy that is action-based. It uses a didactic approach where you are learning skills to improve psychological flexibility. It incorporates mindfulness, acceptance, diffusion, and understanding of self as context. Most importantly it uses the identifying of values to set goals as an action step towards living a fuller life. It is like having a compass to choose the direction of your journey. It has been supported as a treatment for a wide range of disorders.
